Frequency stop-band optimization in micro-slit resonant metamaterials

An optimized unit cell design of a micro-slit resonant metamaterial is proposed to increase the size frequency stop-bands and enhance sound absorption at normal incidence. Micro-slit metamaterials offer compact lightweight solution for low-frequency noise reduction, in contrast traditional methods such as absorptive foams. A combination numerical semi-analytical solutions based on dispersion curves presented. novel algorithm allows decoupling wave types from raw data curves, without using stiffness mass matrices. thorough optimization process designs with genetic algorithms performed. Focus given first stop-band, located range application metamaterials. The shows that relatively large resonators (with respect total area) produce larger whereas slit size, resonator have negligible effect. increases stop-band by 20% second 25% compared literature standard. incidence acoustic waves are derived numerically rigid elastic frame backed cavity. These validated JCAPL model. 9% peak coefficient standard cavity depth 30 mm, an 10% 53 mm. Stop-band behavior does not influence interest.
